Artist History
In 1997 Disashi L-K and Dan Lane, both budding guitarists at the time, began speaking of starting a band together. Disashi thought of his friend Dan Collins to play drums, but refrained from asking after finding out that he was currently already in two other bands. Upon receiving this information, Disashi looked to other classmates to fill the slot. After hearing about the band however, Dan Collins proposed to play and was gladly accepted. All that they needed now was a bassist. Fortunately for the crew, Disashi was in an earth science class with a bad ass known simply by the name Eric Phelps. Like Lane and Disashi, Eric was picking up guitar as well, and proposed to play bass for the group. It was after a few practices that the group agreed upon the name Simple Addictions. Under the influence of such bands as Silverchair, Sublime, and several other alternative artists, Simple Addictions managed to pump out a couple songs of their own. The four of them, eager for a performance, began searching for opportunities to play. Eric managed to get the permission of a small community center less than a mile from his house. Simple Addictions, along with punk band Pork, held their first show at the Bethel Grove Community Center on Halloween of 1997. After a couple of shows Disashi, being the pansy that he is, announced to the band that a few members of his family felt offended by the undertones of drug use that the name "Simple Addictions" suggested. The other three members reluctantly, but eventually agreed to change the name. After a slew of names ranging from Cellular Nun to Willy's Wonka, Dan Collins came up with Earl's Garage. So it was. Little did Ithaca know what was emerging from D.C.'s basement that day: the E.G. crew was born... |
