Artist description
Art-Music. From the abstract and the surreal to concrete and steel.Industrial music in every sense of the word; from traditional, found object sounds to the newer electronic forms.Sometimes hard and metallic, sometimes spacy and surreal, sometimes raging and harsh and sometimes quiet and frail.A world of introspection and outward-looking contemplation.A whisper to a screm.Contradiction and coherence. |

Artist History
Formed in the birthplace of Skinny Puppy (Vancouver Canada) in 1994.Dumbass began creating their own blend of guitar heavy industrial music with the idea of art in mind.Their early live performances were filled with a violent energy thatcrossed the line between music and performance art. They recorded their first album (1997's: HELL)on a 4 track cassette recorder, bouncing tracks back and forth to create room for all of the instruments.Their second album (Salvation (1998)) was an experimentation with epic. It included their most "heavy metal" sounding songs to date. With Puke (1999), the bands first experimentation with cd-singles,the band made a return to their true industrial nature. The following full album (Hate Beyond Hope (1999) including Puke)was DUMBASS at their best.A second single (Speed (1999)) was released as a follow-up to the album and first single.November 2000 saw the release of the first single from an upcoming double album."Cold Fate" marks a dividing line between the previous DUMBASS material, whichhad become precise and specialised, and the sprawling opus that was to come.December 12, 2000 marks the release of Misery, the latest release from the DUMBASS camp. The album contains 37 tracks and over 2 and a half hours of music. The band is more sophisticated and evolved now than ever. 2001 Saw the release of The Execution of Certain Actions, a series of site recordings made as the band broke into scrapyards and demolition areas in the middle of the night. Rare Shit, a compilation of hard to find and unreleased tracks was also released in 01. Throughout 2001-2002 Dumbass have been working on scores of new material (mostly unreleased) and have just completed a new album which recaptures some of the bands heavier energy. A 2 disc best of will also be released in August 2002, around the same time as the new album. |
