Artist description
A powerpop band from San Francisco, PICNIC is acclaimed by critics as "wonderfully addictive" and "brimming with originality", combining "intelligent lyrics" and "great hooks" with "a profound sense of style and craftsmanship"....
The band's debut CD has been applauded as "an inspiration" putting PICNIC "on the brink of breakthrough"...
The band's live show is described as "strong and wild" and "The entire Picnic menu was way danceable."
Sally's acoustic rock roots ("gurlie music with an edge") are now charged by "hip guitar work" and "tight grooves". PICNIC's style could be compared to No Doubt meets Garbage meets Alanis meets Sheryl Crow meets a Hole lot more...X |

Artist History
Singer/songwriter, Sally Crosthwait, had been performing
in San Francisco clubs for about 2 years
when she met guitar virtuoso, Chad Culp,
from San Jose in 1997. Chad fell in love with Sally's
songwriting and recruited one of the Bay area's
best rhyth m sections (Tim van den Berg and
Dave Brown) to join them in demoing a few tunes. The
4-piece came together naturally and has been gigging
and recording together ever since.
On the wings of critical acclaim and a strong local
following, Picnic rose qui ckly to the top of the
San Francisco club scene, while recording their
debut CD "Always Open". Since its released in 1999 "Always Open" has garnered glowing reviews and received airplay on hundreds of major and independent radio stations throughout the country.
In 2000 Picnic was chosen from over 800 bands to represent
Northern California on Corona's SoundWaves 2000 tour. As a result, the band's song, "Mockingbird", received extensive airplay on more than 160 major radio stations throughout the country. Corona chose to renew their sponsorship in 2001. |
