Artist History
Conceived in a Columbus, Ohio basement and named by mistake, Adam have been fighting their uphill battle against boring pop music since 1993. Their first album, Irish Coffee, was recorded in 1996 on a budget of $800 and some favors. The album was supported by three small tours, moderate college radio play, and a rabid work ethic.
Adam's second record, (shin jin rui) was released in March 2000. Pronounced "shin jin ree", it is filled with brooding songs featuring layers of noisy guitars and dreamy synths. Passionate, searing vocals deliver heartache in a pill that is easily swallowed. Great hooks and beautiful harmonies tie the sound together in a way that threatens to redefine pop music as we know it.
Adam's unique sound is often compared to U2, Depeche Mode, the violet burning, Joy Division, Sunny Day Real Estate and Radiohead. Tragic enough for Goth fans, pretty enough for pop fans and noisy enough for Fugazi fans, the band draws an audience that spans many ages and genres.
With several national tours, 25 US States, a Top 50 slot on the PAJ Charts and a Top 40 mp3 on Rollingstone.com under their belts, Adam show no sign of stopping. 2001 is poised to be their most exciting year yet, including a 28 day US tour (February) and the release of their first video (June). Their upcoming summer tour consists of 55 days in the Western US followed by participation in the Levi's First Stage tour of SFX amphitheaters nationwide. |
