Artist History
The MacVitties are led by singer, songwriter, Chris MacVittie. Chris who also plays rhythm guitar is backed-up on vocals by his dad, Fred. After high school Chris moved to Australia where he was a volunteer doing land conservation work. For the majority of the six months he was there Chris lived alone in a small shack. It was then that he first learned to play guitar and began to write songs. When he returned home he continued to play and write. When he decided to record he asked his dad, Fred, to do vocal back-up. In October 98, Chris and Fred started performing, up until then the only singing they had done together was like many of us, in the car to Beatles songs. Chris says, "I listened to a lot of great music growing up. The Buffalo Springfield, Incredible String Band, CSN and sometimes Y, Jefferson Airplane, Moody Blues, Sting, and of course The Beatles. "A little of all of them is there in the music." Fred Mac Vittie has worked for more than 20 years as an environmental and safety consultant. Before joining Chris, the last time he sang was in high school chorus. " I've always loved to sing." says Fred, "but singing with Chris is really something very special." Fred also adds his touch to the lyrics. The collaboration works and the result is their first CD "Not What You Think", Boston Soundcheck Magazine Reviews Highest Rating" Four Stars. "I think the people don't know what to expect, a father and son singing together." says Chris, "but then they hear the music and kind of light up. In some ways I think everyone really likes the idea." The MacVitties perform as a duo, and as a full band. |
