Artist History
Jihad, in Arabic means to fight or strive against external and internal forces in the cause of righteousness, it also is the name of a four man hip hop collective hailing from Macon, Georgia. The group consists of Ira "Enigma" Davis, Brady Fields, Virgil Lindsey, and Richard Rutherford. The Jihad began as a two man unit in 1995 consisting of Davis and Rutherford. The duo recorded several demos that received good reviews from listeners. The group competed in several talent shows and showcases locally and regionally but did not receive the success they were looking for. In 1998, the Jihad reorganized and added long time affiliate Fields and the fresh voice of Lindsey. In 1999, the Jihad beame the first hip hop act featured at the Georgia Music Hall of Fame. The group's EP "Contemporary Negro Spirituals" is available globally online at MP3.COM (http://www.mp3.com/TheJihad) and locally in Macon, GA at Media Play. The group also appears on the 2000 release "City Of Dreams" by Jihad member Ira Davis A.K.A. Enigma and on the 2001 release "The Nation Compilation" by the South Dakota based record label Night Shield Entertainment. Press Reviews
(The Jihad) have put together an EP of Southern-fried hip-hop that shows they've got more on their minds than the now tired bling-blingin', gun-totin' ho-hoppin' nonsense that much of mainstream hip hop refuses to move past. Over sparse mechanized beats, with no samples, the four MCs speak about real issues and genuine emotions other than hate and anger...Jihad's choice of subject matter alone separates them from most of the pack.

(The Jihad) have done it again. They have created a true masterpiece. From the smooth melodic "Just Ride" and "It's So Hard" all the way down to the answer to the question. Can (the Jihad) do it again? "How Easy Is This?" If it's the Jihad, it's not hard at all. The best Hip Hop album in sometime!!
