    Artist History
Hookstown Brown was born to a family of scant means in the rural foothills of western Pennsylvania. His mother, who was of considerable musical talent, kept her family fed by working the local cornfields as a crow chaser. In her free time, she watched favorite episodes of "Eyewitness News" - yep, she had 'em all on tape...... She loved to sing. She sang songs of hardship and faith whenever the need arose. She sang at home, at church and in the cornfields.... She was considered a good-hearted woman by all who knew her..... Hookstown's daddy, though, was a bit different... He drank beer... Warm beer -- through a straw... Worse yet, his daddy had a problem... An odor problem... Well, it was a gas problem to be correct........ Uncontrollable... He passed gas in church, and in the Big Mini Superette... Everywhere.... He passed gas at the dinner table...... Lotsa gas...... But all who knew him would stand up for him... His daddy was a good man......... Neither of Hookstown's parents could read or write, though, so they named their kids after road-signs and billboards to get the spelling right. Yes, mom and dad did what life called for. And it truly made for a simple but meaningful upbringing for Hookstown and his three sisters: Amoco, fairgrounds and Mail Pouch........... Anyways, as he grew, it soon became obvious that young Hookstown had inherited some very special talents from each of his parents..... Musical talents, from his mother, were showing their promise right along with some quite remarkable talents in regards to flatulence. You can guess what it all added up to........ Yes, that's right, when Hookstown Brown passed gas, he could make sweet melodies! No kidding, believe it! He used to say, "Gimme some beans and pick a key"!............ So anyways, months turned to years, Hookstown constantly worked to refine his talent, and the future surely seemed brighter for himself and the rest of the Brown family. Dreams were comin' true and for a time, fame lit up the horizon................. Hookstown would start a tootin' and the locals would gather and start a rootin'. His popularity soared. He was admired and adored from a distance. The local girls all wished they could get closer to him. Yes, for a good stretch, Hookstown was a shootin' star of sorts............. But, alas, the Nashville interest, which is so critical to an artist's future, never found its way to him. Hookstown? He gave it his all for such a long time........... Suffice it to say he would bend over backwards to put on a good show........ Time, though, eventually has its way with fame... and time did indeed bring an end to Hookstown's tootin' career. Simply put, the family could no longer afford to pay the sky-high bean bill he constantly rang up and they finally asked Hookstown to give up tootin' altogether............ Shattered and torn, Hookstown started into a steep, downward spiral. He went down fast and hard. It hurt the family so, to see him that way. Oh he would occasionally whistle a tune or two. But whistlin' ain't what moved him...tootin' was....... Yes, Hookstown's true happiness was forever gone with the wind and he knew it. He really only managed to get past the worst days through the love and caring of his family and, well then one day his parents sold a few chickens and bought him a Buck Owens Junior Cowboy six-string guitar at the local five and dime and...... What a mistake! Look out now! Son of a dawg-bite! He's no longer tootin' but he's back to get you rootin'... Enjoy! ............. "Hookstown Brown - a talented varmint with a catchy name". That's the buzz in and around Pittsburgh even though he used to live there! Skitch Tucker writes, "His exceptional songwriting will have you toe-tapping and singing along in no time! Just one listen and you'll be 'hooked'! You are sure to discover an impressive range of writing ability. From comedy to heartache and back. Hookstown Brown writes it down-home".
