    Artist History
hinder is a five piece band from a town just outside of Philadelphia. The group is rooted in melodic rock, though frequent transgressions from this style make categorizations difficult. The origins of hinder are found in the longtime musical partnership of guitarist Matt McGough and drummer Ian Ambron. For years, the two had practiced together but made no definite plans of a band. Early 1999, however, found Matt and Ian eager to pursue a musical venture, and hinder was formed. Mike Bondiskey and Ken Vasoli quickly joined to supply the bass and vocals, respectively, and hinder began practicing for local shows. Within several weeks, the band had begun writing and was offered an opportunity to appear on a rock compilation. After recording their first original track, hinder changed its lineup, moving Mike Bondiskey to a second guitar position and adding Mike Ambron into the bass slot. This lineup would remain intact for nearly a year, time in which the band experienced a high level of local success. hinder played countless local shows culminating in their consecutive wins of the Philadelphia Indiefest Competition in 1999 and 2000. Each competition featured over twenty bands and having won first place in both, the band was rewarded with studio time. With the time collected from the first win, hinder recorded their debut album, which received local renown and radio airplay. Soon after winning the second competition, however, singer Ken Vasoli left the band over creative differences. Quickly filling the open vocal position was Jason Angus. With the new lineup intact, hinder began writing for a second album. The songs demonstrate a significantly more developed style, and this was reflected in a markedly higher level of success. Hinder began playing more high profile shows, including recurring performances at venues on Philadelphia’s famous South Street. In November of 2000, hinder entered the studio to record a second album. The initial mixing phase has just been completed, but the band is excited at the prospects of the new, polished sound.
