Artist History
With their unique blend of melody and edginess, fiery lyrics, and a high-energy live show, Gone Again has established themselves as one of the New York area's finest unsigned bands. Over the last three years Gone Again's well-crafted songs, superior musicianship and gritty honesty have formed the foundation of this quintet hailing from the outskirts of New York City.
Singer/Songwriter Victoria Kearns and Guitarist John Grancarich formed Gone Again in 1997 as a humble acoustic duo. They transformed the band into a quartet in early 1998 when they joined forces with drummer Jared Feldman and bassist Jacquie Minsk. The new lineup hit the New York City club circuit, performing consistently, honing their sound and developing new ideas and songs in the process.
In 1999, the band entered Manhattan's entered Mirror Image Studio to record their first demo. Entitled $200 Reward, the four-song disc showcases a band developing its own unique sound, a combination of melodic vocal and musical hooks and rhythmic power. A limited pressing of 500 CDs were ordered and were sold out within a short time of being released. Highlights from this period include performing at The Bitter End with Curtis Stigers and Singer/Songwriter Willie Nile, and performing at Tramp's as part of a benefit for PENCIL, a not for profit organization providing funding for NYC school students.
The year 2000 saw the evolving act reinvent themselves once more with the addition of band member Dave O'Donnell. Dave, a multi-instrumentalist and the engineer and co-producer of $200 Reward, added guitar, synthesizer, and percussion to an already rich mix.
Two of the first songs written as the newest incarnation of Gone Again are featured on their 2000 double-single Legion/Bleed. These two singles are released on the band's own Spicy Noodle Records. The formation of Gone Again's own record label allowed the band to take the music business into its own hands, controlling the recording, promotion and distribution of its music 100% independently. Airplay on local radio stations and coverage in local press helped expose the band to new fans and expanded Gone Again's reach.
This final line-up set the stage for the musical and lyrical growth that brings Gone Again to the present. The band hit the studio in mid-2001 to begin work on their first full length album titled The Gravity Of Seconds. Gone Again hired producer/engineer Michael Watts for the project. Watts, owner of VuDu Studios in Freeport, NY, took the band in a new direction, enhancing their sound while staying true to their roots.
Titled The Gravity of Seconds, this debut album successfully combines the band's varied influences into a sturdy and cohesive sound. Steely yet fragile vocals, swirling guitars, and infectious rhythms all work as one to deliver a distinct musical message. Gone Again is a band in full creative bloom, confidently marching into new sonic territory while never losing touch with their acoustic roots. Gone Again displays a rare ability to rock while retaining the melodies and musicianship that got them their start. |
