Press Reviews
http://detroitmusic.cjb.net - 4-15-00 - Bean Machine; By Pat Gallagher, deftone@email.com; "Well, the Bean Machine... pretty big place, huh. About the size of two small rooms put together. Really cool show there, though. No stage, but still cool. That was probly better too, the bands were right in line with the people watching em. Not too many people there, but I doubt that place could squeeze in anywhere near 150 anyway.Groove Industry played first, pretty early too, like 8. They played a cool set, it was the first time I've seen em with their new drummer, but I've only seen em twice... they dont play enough shows out here, damn it. They played about 6 songs, i recognized 3 or 4 and the ones i didnt were really good. They gotta be one of the coolest bands around... really, they stick around for the other bands, and are real cool people. Then Fuzzbox Twin went on. They, uh, were crazy... great live show. Great music. The whole set was just adrenaline rush after adrenaline rush, as far as the band goes anyway... i guess there was no moshing or things of that nature allowed, but you know how that goes, just ask the eastpointe city council, i.e. "no dancing license, stand still," yeah, sounds cool. But anyway, they did something I haven't seen a band in Detroit do in a long time... solo, and they were good solos too, really good. They played for a while, i dunno, maybe 9-10 songs, maybe not, i don't remember, but i think they were on speed or some shit, cuz they were insane on that stage, uh, i mean floor.Anyway, expect cds from both those bands out soon(?). Groove Industry should have 'Joe & Pete' out soon, and i dunno much about Fuzzbox Twin's cd, except that I'm gonna buy it"; - http://detroitmusic.cjb.net - 11-24-00 - Bean Machine; By Pat Gallagher, deftone@email.com;"....As i got there, Fuzzbox Twin was setting up. These guys are well worth any trip to see them. They play a mix of metal, alternative, and hardcore, but it sounds so perfectly blended, its not a mix of genres, its just their sound. They also have a sax player in the band. Me, being as stupid as i am, assumed it would be a lame attempt at mixing ska into the music. Wrong. Man, the sax sounds so fluid and just falls in with the other instruments. It definitely adds to the mood of the song when it comes in. And its hard to mention Fuzzbox Twin without mentioning how energetic their set is. They seem to have fun playing too, which is always good when you watch a band...." - Jam Rag - 1-4-00 - The Shelter; By Ken Schroeder, killerken@hotmail.com; "Truthfully, I didn't really expect to see many people at The Shelter on a Tuesday night, but I've got to tell you - this was not a bad turnout at all! Everyone knows how hard it is to draw locally on a Tuesday, in fact a lot of bands would turn down a Tuesday. But this show turned out to be good. The night started off some young guys, a band called Fuzzbox Twin. When I saw these guys during soundcheck, I thought they were all of about 12 - just kidding! But they are a very young band. And you know what? They are impressive, and I liked them a lot! As a matter of fact, I complimented the person who put the show together for having such a good opening band!Despite some early guitar strap problems for the singer/guitarist which resulted in a delay between the first and second song, they pulled off a pretty good set! I think they even sounded better with just the one guitarist for some reason. And that's weird, because I love the two-guitar thing! The lead guitarist had a really low, deep, warped sound going, and it was heavy as hell (in part, I'm sure, to the Randall headhe used which cranked, balls-out)!About the third song, and later in the set, they had a sax player come on. This, I'm sure you can imagine, set a different feel to their sound. I can't really explain it - maybe you can if you see Fuzzbox Twin.I heard them being compared to the band Snapcase. Their overall volume could have been turned up a couple of notches, but they can't control that, or being cut short on their set by the soundman. Don't even get me started with that whole thing!..." |
