Artist description
This Trio of select musicians performs rarely together- their professional careers dictate appearances only at festivals & select performances. Voted Most Popular Band, Thredbo Blues Festival 1997Adrian K.'s alter ego is Principal Violin with the Australian Opera & Ballet Orchestra, & has performed sessions for You Am I, Leonardo's Bride, & Savage Garden. Award-Winning Geoff Achison (winner, Memphis Blues Foundation Performer of the Year 1995; and the Albert King Guitar Award 1995, USA) , of 'Big Machine' & 'Genevieve' fame, performs brilliantly on vocals and acoustic & electric guitars. Geoff has just completed his long awaited album 'Gettin' Evil'. Very much in demand Steve Sampson, a tower of strength on Bass, plays a virtuosic & melodic style rarely seen or heard in this country. Less well known about Steve is his underscoring for popular children's television series. |

Press Reviews
Mr Blues Online:"A truly magnificent album..a must have for any serious music lovers collection"Blueprint (UK) :".. the artistry here is of the highest standard" Live review: "..their collective virtuosity & stage presence silenced even the hardened natterers….it was an honour to hear."Sydney Blues Society: Live review, CD Launch, the Basement: "Strings have been used by many composers.. to set the emotive tone, to take the listener to another level of feeling. This is what Classically Blue do so well, & as a result they are creating something original. This is not a traditional band. This is art."23Jan2000 AUSTRALIA: You Get That Classically Blue (Larrikin/Festival). By JULIE HOSKING. THIS loose trio banded together for the annual Thredbo Blues Festival and, as their popularity grew on each visit, they decided to put out an album. Adrian K., a respected classical violinist, and guitarist Steve Sampson are based in Sydney and blues guitarist Geoff Achison does the rounds in Melbourne. To hell with boundaries, musical or geographic. With the help of a few leading lights from orchestras and string quartets, these guys cross them all. The music has been so cleverly arranged - by The Trio, as they refer to themselves - that on songs such as the three-part Each Long Day it is hard to tell where the violin ends and the electric guitar begins. If the word classical evokes yawns of boredom among blues fans, wake up. This is mostly energetic stuff, with the classical all-sorts not only matching the tempo but leading the blues boys on many a merry dance. Some interesting choices slow the pace, including an evocative cover of Elvis Costello's Shipbuilding and You Get That, a deliciously wry take on life from Sampson. But there is no doubt the blues is boss on killer tracks such as Freddie King's Love Her With Feelin' and Just A Little Bit. Excellent. - SECT-Look Hear.
