Press Reviews
Pounding guitars, growling vocals, intelligent lyrics, and a touch of industrial electronics combine to make this one of the best albums out there. It’s as if these guys personally asked me what I look for in an album and went to work. Well, thanks, the work paid off. With the album’s opening, you’ll know exactly where I’m coming from, as "Love Sonnet" gives you the first taste of Silverstar style, at times brooding and melancholy, then slamming you with an intensity that will blow you away. The song "Gremlin" has already hit major number one success, and is destined to spread uncontrollably across the air waves. The track is like an addiction, making replay no longer an issue of free will. While industrial heavy numbers such as "She" and "Drive" will make comparisons to genre standards such as Nine Inch Nails unavoidable, these guys grab onto a style that’s all their own. The band is hard, heavy, yet built for mass consumption. That’s right, an intense band you won’t have to wait up until 10:00 at night or check the schedule on the local community station to hear on the radio. As infectious and tight as Radio Head and Smashing Pumpkins, Silverstar took the best of what is out there now and improved it to make a sound worthy of tomorrow. "Untitled" underscores this point, with its heavy guitar and intense yet brooding vocals. The track is like several on the album, showing diversity and dynamic moods throughout the songs, one moment tranquil and subdued, the next hard and driving. Tracks such as the serene balled "The Quest For Somi", containing elements tranquil yet heavy, and the almost worshipful "Yours", which is just plain beautiful, prove the band is more than just guitars. While tracks like "Molly" give the best of both worlds, one moment almost Cure-like and the next driving ala Smashing Pumpkins, tracks such as "Volcano" and "Mourning Dawn" leave no doubt these guys are a powerhouse to be reckoned with. The album wraps up nicely with a great remix by the industrial great Gathering Of Souls, with producer and fellow artist a.c.boyd bringing both subtle and profound elements to the laid back track. I’ve watched music evolve over the past three decades, and often wonder when that instance is when something comes along that incorporates what has been done and improves upon it in such a way that will be accepted so as to make an impact. With their addictive guitars, tight vocals, and industrial overtones, Silverstar is on the leading edge of tomorrow. By not conforming to the formula, the band has broken new ground while producing material ready for mass consumption. Chad - The Edge Radio OnlineMelbourne, Australia
