Artist description
(KOOL-NASTY-*bleep*-TECHNIQUES-UNDERNEATH-REAL-*bleep*-LYRICS)The lifestyle of De’mond Taylor, who by his second birthday had been moved to the South Central Los Angeles area of 82nd & Vermont, would never be the same. Slick Rick - “I thought it was so dope how he told stories and changed his style so many times during one song. “That’s what got me started”. Knatural had a following in his neighborhood and at school, and eventually joined a group called NHT (Nappy Headed Thieves). Each group member was named for their style of hair. Khinky Rhedd and Boofy were obvious descriptions, but De’mond’s name, Knatural, had a more diverse meaning. “I had a natural ability to rhyme about anything around me, off the top of my head, and I have naturally curly hair.” In 1994, Knatural changed schools and left NHT behind. At his new school he met an emcee named Tink. After naming themselves the Knitwits, the two signed with Anthony Shaw of Shawtown Management. Anthony was managing a group called the Wascals, and wanted to form a sub-group called Our Gang. After conflicts within the group left the Wascals without a fourth member, Knatural was asked to step in. The Wascals released two singles, “Class Clown” and “The Dips”, which were both successful, but after a dispute with Delicious Vinyl over their album release, the group left the label and decided to break up.After the group thing fell through one more time, Knatural went back out on his own, freestyling and battling emcees at different hip hop spots around the westcoast. He also began going out on auditions for commercials, and landed a few, including a Levi’s commercial with one of the Wascals and also landed reoccurrences in Hanging with Mr. Cooper & Moesha. During this time, Knatural met Troy “Fat Dad” Byam, a producer who was making beats for Relativity Records, owned by Reggie Turner. His Debut performances were with Common, Mos Def, Short Chop, DJ Quik and Boys-2-Men. Knatural’s Stage presence was like a lightning bolt of energy. Showing positive energy that people just couldn’t get enough of.Knatural’s debut album is titled “Life Threw My Eyes”. “I gave my album that title because I want whoever hears it to see what life looks like through my eyes. The spelling is different, because of life being like dice. Imagine someone taking your eyeballs out and throwing them like dice. When they stop, they’re pointing in any direction, and there’s no telling what you might see. I want the listener to see what I see when my eyes stop rolling. |
