Artist History
November Samurai was originally formed in May 1999 when all the members were in elementary school. The point of having the band was to play a cover of Chixdiggit!'s "Gettin' Air" at the school talent show. For the talent show, Alex Arsenault and Brett Burkholder sang, Jeff Schmid played guitar, Jeff Romanyk played drums, and there was no bass. It was a great success, suprisingly. November Samurai then settled down to write some music and start thinking about the future. They realized they probably needed a bass player, so they made Alex start playing. No one really knows how Brett grew away from the band, he just did.
Their first song "Victory", was a great success amongst their peers. They saw potential in themselves, and started coming up with amazing technical songs, which brought them to a third place finish in O'Neill High School's first ever Battle Of The Bands (Jeff Schmid's creation). This was their first show ever, Jeff Romanyk was still in grade 8, Alex barely knew how to play bass, and they managed to beat out 3 other bands for the third place position. Pete Jelinsky saw the show, and soon had them playing with Moose Jaw punk rock tycoons, Layaway Plan, which ended up being a enormous show, considering all the bands were local.
They went on to play a large amount of shows. From big shows (Gob, Bigwig) to the smaller but equally as fun shows (Wishing Well, The Red Light Sting, Filmmaker). They started to record "The Elementary Years" but that failed to be released, twice. But, you see "The Elementary Years" wasn't really that good. So, Novemeber Samurai started working on a new CD that is to be called "To Each Their Own".
Shortly after they recorded all the music for "To Each Their Own", their beloved Alex left the band, due to some creative differences and motivational problems. He will always be loved by November Samurai, and he took this whole thing with an amazing amount of class, so they thank him for that. You'll still see him around cuz he's agreed to stay in close touch with the band. Nov Sam then approached Matt O'Connell, who they had know from Elementary School and still kept in touch with in High School, and asked if he would take over the duties of playing bass. With no hesitaiton at all, Matt agreed to join November Samurai.
Jeff, Jeff and Matt are currently preparing for the summer and coming close to finishing their first full length album, "To Each Their Own". No release date has been set but they are working on it and it will be released as soon as it is complete. That is a promise! |
