Artist History
The Markers were started in 1995 in Stanley, Kansas as a two man accoustical and piano-ical comedy band for primarily children's birthday parties and high school tailgate parties. Originally known as The Lickety Splits, Steve Weatherford and W. Dave Keith changed the name of the band to the Markers, in honor of Steve's youngest brother, Mark, who at the time was 5 years old and would give the band idead for song names. The Markers took Stanley and all of eastern Kansas by storm and released album after album, making money out the wazoo. The band reached it's high point in the summer of 1997 when they played at Stanley's Sonic Drive-In. Since then the band has had a steady decline. Half of the band joined the new blues quartet, The Napkins. The rest were retired and living nicely in Tallahassee, Florida. As of April 2001, The Markers are back together and rocking harder than was ever thought possible. They have added Tom Waddington, a new guitarist and fiddle player (formerly with W. Dave in the Ho Ho Hogans and currently in the college/emo-ska/punk band The Shaking Trees). Their new 7" inch called "Tropical Paradise" was recorded in Lawrence, Kansas above the Bottleneck in April and should be hitting the national retail chains sometime this fall. |
