Lucid Jones Bio
Detroit Rock City has been breeding musical legends of the past century. After all, most of the creative folk out there base their great sounds and influences on the pioneers of different genres.
Everyone in this day and age longs for a lucid vision. Whether it applies to life’s situations or in the case of four young men from Detroit including Christian (Bass/back-up vocals); Jim Sparks (drums); Mike Batke (rhythm guitar); and Nate Anderson (lead guitar and vocals), who have made it their life goal to be addicted to their perfect sound that fits their ideals of what the world’s all about. Lucid Jones comes into their own element. “If I had to make a comparison to what we sound like, I would have to say a more mature, rough around the edges, straight up pop rock band,” Nate Anderson commented.
After receiving rave reviews from the regional critics for their debut album self-titled Lucid Jones, the band followed up with an extreme substantial sophomore release entitled, Code. “When I was writing Code, I was going through a lot of personal situations, in which I didn’t really know where I stood in life,” Anderson stated. “It’s funny everytime I’m writing I began to learn so much about myself, it seems to have a way of opening up my eyes and making me more aware of my surroundings. It especially makes me look at what’s going on in my life at the time.”
One track in particular, “Constellation,” gained “The Most Added Title In the Country,” according to Gavin’s tracking, beating out artists like J.Lo, City High, and Aerosmith, and going on to chart on the national top 40 chart. In addition to winning over different markets through radio, Lucid Jones has been sharing the stage with different heavyweights in the regional area like Evan and Jaron, Uncle Kracker, The Calling, Michelle Branch, American Hi Fi, Toya, and more .
“We’re in the right place, living in Detroit right now,” Anderson concludes. “Besides the fact that there are so many great acts coming out of this state right now, the new stuff that we’re working on right now, I believe may be ahead of the times. In addition to steering clear of music that is overproduced with loops, we’re creating music that when you hear the recorded version is the same thing you’re going to hear live. A style and sound that we can be confident with that it is our absolute best.”

SECTION: Weekend; Pg. 4 HEADLINE: Group pumps out rock 'n' roll with touch of funk, soul, blues BYLINE: Melody Baetens; The Detroit News ROSEVILLE --East-siders Nate Anderson and Mike Batke teamed up musically about three years ago. The two guitarists are from musical families, so starting a band came naturally to them. Shortly after, they were joined by drummer Jim Sparks and later, by bassist Christian and Al Bushe Keys. Then, they became Lucid Jones. The group prides itself on being original and gimmick free. "We focus on songwriting more than anything else," says Anderson, Lucid Jones' frontman. The band has played many of Metro Detroit's larger venues. This month, Lucid Jones will hit Ferndale's Magic Bag and the Emerald Theatre in Mount Clemens. Last month, the group opened for Detroit rock heroes Sponge at Rubble's in Mt. Pleasant. The future? The bandmates hope to get picked up by a larger record label and play their first show outside of the state. Name: Lucid Jones. Lineup: Nate Anderson, vocals, guitar and piano; Mike Batke, rhythm guitar; Christian, bass; Jim Sparks, drums. Sound: Straight-up rock 'n' roll with hints of funk, soul and blues. Batke's classic rock influences and Anderson's gospel background shine through a bit on the band's latest release, CODE. Releases: CODE, CD Lucid Jones, CD (Bullfrog Records). Next: Lucid Jones will perform with rockers Rev and Calamity Jane on May 11 at the Magic Bag, 22920 Woodward, Ferndale. Doors open at 8 p.m., and admission is $6. Call (248) 544-3030. LUCID JONES Code - Bullfrog They call it Detroit Rock City for a reason. Just look at the heritage of countless rock 'n' roll and R&B artists that have boogied outta Michigan. Lucid Jones, however, might call the Motor City home sweet home, but the foursome eschews Great Lakes rock fury in favor of un-saccharine, power-pop chops on its pretty and sometimes rootsy sophomore album, Code. While vocalist Nate Anderson's delivery on the slower songs is sometimes lofty and strained in emulation of some heavier rock wailers (he hits a few Chris Cornell-worthy yelps on "Comfortable"), Code doesn't aspire to be anything but good ol' heartfelt pop-rock. The haunting, moving "Waiting" operates on such tension between the song's speaker and its subject that you'll feel a lump rise in your throat. - Amy Sciarretto: CMJ New Music Report Issue: 711 - Apr 23, 2001

Lucid Jones Detroit rock quartet "Code" Bullfrog Records, Bay City They're onto something good. Vocalist-guitarist Nate Anderson and guitarist Mike Batke formed Lucid Jones 3 years ago, intent on forging a limber rock sound with an ear for the hook. "Code," the group's second release, reveals that these guys are on a surefooted path. The disc is sublimely mixed and mastered -- 10 tracks sporting a rich sound and energetic balance that could pass for a major-label release. But there's more to "Code" than pro polish. The album wouldn't work if not for the songs themselves, penned and arranged by Anderson-Batke with craftsmen's care. That's apparent in the thick hooks of mid-tempo rockers like "One Day at a Time" and "Poor Man's Wine," marked by the sort of ringing choruses that work as well on a car radio as they do in a college bar. The group includes bassist John Dunn and drummer Jim Sparks, with a little help in the studio from virtuoso keyboardist Chris Codish (the Brothers Groove) and ex-Sponger Vinnie Dombrowski. Keep it up, and the future for Lucid Jones looks pretty clear. 2537 By Brian McCollum, Free Press pop music writer
Real Detroit
Lucid Jones/Code/Bullfrog Records Taking its cue from good old American rock, Lucid Jones, an already tight four-piece, is back with its sophomore effort code. Heavier on the blues tinged guitars and piano Lucid Jones has evolved to tweak their jam infused sound to that of a more mature sounding outfit. With Nate Anderson vocals, Mike Batke guitar, Jim Sparks Drums and John Dunn Bass Lucid Jones Code is a more full sounding effort compared to its first release. Heavy with nostalgic beats southern backing and rich musical textures. The album begins with the instantly groovin "One Day at a Time" but slows it down to a more melodic tempo emphasizing song structure and arragements. Lucid Jones hits all the right notes on the Clapton-esque "Greenest Green." and show promise through most of the album's mood setting songs. B.J. Hammerstein
