Sure, they describe themselves as an acoustic folk duo - and the acoustic guitar work of Kurt Kitson and Toby "Wan" Epstein is indeed the underpinning of their music. But somehow "folk" suggests "traditional" - and Holy Frog is in many ways anything but. Along with the more conventional folk flavors of harmonica and guitar, their songs are peppered with an assortment of sound bites and other unusual odds and ends. One track might fade in out of a cloud of bird song; another starts with a static-y radio broadcast. Add feedback loops and drones, combined with vocals which may swim out of a wash of reverb, and this is definitely folk with a flavor all its own.Holy Frog create all their music "in-house," in their home studio in Columbia, Missouri.
