    Artist History
Gouge was formed in 1996 by Ron Manganello(bass), Mike DeSino(guitar), and his brother Anthony(drums). The three all had a likeness for extreme and diverse music. Practicing as a three piece, Gouge decided to look for a front man to sing for the band. After holding auditions, the band settled on ex-Scapegoat vocalist/guitarist Erin Farley to handle vocal duties. The band finally came up with enough material to do live performances and started gigging regularly. Gouge quickly established a reputation for themselves in Orange County New York area where their tight playing and stage presence whipped small clubs into a frenzy. In the summer of 1997, Gouge recorded its first demo, Descending upon Our Fate. The recording showcased some of the most intense hardcore to emerge from the New Jersey scene. Unfortunately, only 200 copies were pressed and the tape is now out of print. The desire to be more creative in the songwriting department prompted Gouge to add another guitarist to the line-up. Former Scapegoat guitarist Dave Lawson joined Gouge in 1998 and added to the band's live performance as well as contributed material to the songwriting process. In 1999 Gouge decided to take the desire to be creative to yet another level. They were approached by DJ John Eric about adding turntables to the band's music. With many bands coming out in the commercial metal scene using the element of turntables in their music, it seemed only natural for Gouge to add a DJ to their line-up. But having a DJ in the band would not cause them tone down the extremity of their music but instead take that extremity to another level. At the end of 1999, Gouge recorded their first CD entitled, To Intimidate and Bludgeon. The CD was an obvious progression from the Descending.... demo and proved that the band had potential to become a force in the NJ underground hardcore scene.Currently Gouge has about an album's worth of new material which the group intends to record most or all of it for an upcoming release. The band's mission is to continue to diversify themselves while keeping their music brutal and intense. Gouge is confident that their new material will surpass their prior recording efforts and establish them as one of the most brutal up and coming bands in the New Jersey hardcore scene.
