Artist History
Althea Borck was born on June 22, 1981 and grew up in Houston, Texas where she was first introduced to the piano at a very early age. Her older sister, Catherine, had already begun piano lessons and Althea, who liked to sit and listen to her older sister play, soon began leaning the piano as well. The rest of her family, an older brother and younger sister and brother, soon followed in learning the keyboard and other musical instruments. By age ten, Althea was constantly at the piano, annoying her poor family with the same, old song she’d learned a month before. While her mother continued to stress the importance of practicing, Althea remained a recluse—doing her own thing and not what was printed in the music. In fifth grade, Althea started learning the violin, which she continued throughout her intermediate and high school years. However, it soon became apparent to her her family and friends that Althea wasn’t mean to play what was printed. After twelve years of piano and violin lessons, Althea reverted her entire attention to composing and arranging music of her own. At Clear Lake High School, she continued to play her violin in the orchestra while writing piano pieces at home before graduating on May 23, 1999. Althea has won many high school awards for her compositions and has performed her hymn medleys in church countless times. She’s only just started recording her compositions and hopes to write her pieces down in the very near future. |
