    Artist History
What’s in a name? To most people, not much, but to Teague Alexy, his name serves a purpose. In ancient Ireland, a TEAGUE was a traveling bard who reported current events to society through music and entertainment. It is written that many are called and only few are chosen. Is he a sage? An oracle? A talented troubadour? Perhaps he is a little of each. Whatever role in which he is cast, Teague Alexy is taking popular music in a new direction with his genre-bending songs. In Teague’s music you hear the East Coast hip-hop rhythms from his highly acclaimed band, Spilled Milk (co founded with longtime friend, Angelo DeRosa); the poetic wisdom of his philosophical lyrics; and his passionate singing of life experiences from growing up in a working class family. This isn’t grunge band chaos--but finely tuned songs with funked out harmonies and melodic riffs for the masses. Whether he’s playing solo or with his band, Medication, watching any show is like witnessing an energetic flame passing from one person to the next. Once this enthusiastic flash infects the crowd, it resonates. You are no longer a bystander. You’re up on your feet motivated, moving, dancing, activated by the positive energy administered by Teague Alexy with Medication. This music has a heartbeat. It’s jazz, folk, soul, and world beats inspired by Jamaican and African rhythms--a musical tapestry of life and dreams dripping with heart and passion. Originally from New Jersey, Teague has traveled from coast to coast making music wherever he calls home--gathering new musical influences and captivating fans along the way. Teague began writing and honing his highly original style of genre-bending songs in the talent-laden San Diego singer/songwriter scene in the mid 90s, which produced such luminaries as Jewel and Steve Poltz. In 1998, Teague returned to New Jersey to play with Spilled Milk and to promote their debut cd, “Jive Ass Turkey”, recorded earlier that year in San Diego. His talent was noticed early on as the popular San Diego magazine, SLAMM, gave the CD a four-star review and called Alexy and DeRosa “brilliant, young musicians/songwriters”. In a few short months, Spilled Milk became the most popular original band in southern New Jersey. Shortly after, Teague left Spilled Milk and took his sound to Minnesota, where he and Medication are being heralded as one of the most important bands in the Midwest. The counterbalance to Teague Alexy’s soothing vocals is the slammin’ rhythm section known as Medication. Drummer, Dustin Tessier, is a multi-talented musician whose pure organic jazz groove is deeply rooted in percussive rhythm. His drumming and background harmony bring a new dimension into Teague’s songs. Chad Bloodson, the bassist, is a well-traveled, energetic performer and talented songwriter of his own. His mystical ‘231’ is often part of the live set. No matter where Teague has been, his music tells you where he’s going. After opening for bands like pop stars Smash Mouth, Marvelous 3, A.J. Croce and Mason Jennings, folk star Vance Gilbert, underground hip-hoppers Eyedea and Abilities, and with the Medication being a sort of black sheep on the rise in the Midwest jam band scene, Teague is on the fast track to national recognition as an independent artist. With three highly acclaimed cds under his belt (two with Spilled Milk and the much celebrated Sun Moon and Heaven), you’d better catch this star before he shoots through the universe and moves onto bigger venues. If you’re lucky enough to experience Teague Alexy with Medication perform, you’ll understand why he is proving to the world, through music, that he wasn’t simply named, but chosen. - Steven Pohl

“You may have not yet heard about Teague Alexy. Chances are you will very soon...with noticeably strong songwriting skills and a velvet voice accenting his infections grooves, this avant-garde musician pounds out catchy melodies.” -ST. CLOUD TIMES Alexy’s patented blend of folk, jazz and hip-hop is unduplicated anywhere else, though considering how infections it is, expect to see imitators cropping up soon. But for now, here’s the original.” -READER WEEKLY “manages to create a unique sound that remains all his own...explosive in a philosophical manner...his lyrics are captivating...Sun, Moon and Heaven is a must own for anyone with an interest in folk, jazz or acoustic music.” -UMD STATESMAN “Alexy’s style is a mellow groove that testifies to the power of understatement...within the indubitably broad universe of soulful white guys from the Philadelphia area, Teague Alexy would be to G. Love as Marvin Gaye was to James Brown.” -RIPSAW NEWS “catchy acoustic pop-funk...Teague blends a smooth voice into every style he assimilates...it’s the guy on guitar doing a crooner jazz song in the guise of an alternative artist who keeps a sax in the basement.” -BEN OHMART “Alexy shows off his penchant for mixing styles...witty and smart lyrics with a great groove.” -DULUTH BUDGETEER NEWS “part folk, part world, has touches of reggae, blues, jazz...grooves and sidesteps any genre classification or label, with vocals unique and pure with the timbre of James Taylor, coolness of Randy Newman and conviction of Bob Marley.” -RADIO STONEWALL 4
