    Artist description
They might disturb you....if you don't like having a good time. Shoebox is an independent band out of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia that have been putting on shows of rock and roll craziness for about three years now. In their current form - Jonathan Burke, 18; Derek Huffman, 20; Mike Nunes, 18; Brian Foster, 19 - they have released a 7 song E.P titled 'Superclass' and now the new full length 'Life Imitates Art', to add on to a previous cassette called 'Size Nine'. 'Life Imitates Art' is a trip into the live show that some may not get the opportunity to experience. The intense live feel of songs like 'Overweight' and 'Leave it to the Captain' make you want to get in your underwear and run down the street. Do not listen to 'Did Not Notice' or 'Say What You've Got to Say' on a walkman in public, or you will look like an idiot to everyone around you when you start jumping around and singing uncontrollably. You can wind down to the mellow sounds of 'Big Endians' and 'Russell St.' Selected songs are to be traded heavily through Napster and will be available on their website. If anything, 'Life Imitates Art' conveys the Shoebox message of 'why did you come here if you don't want to have a good time'?

    Artist History
The boys initially met through high school bands and started playing regularly at Halifax's all-ages club 'Cafe Ole'. They won a 'Battle of the Bands' early on which led to their first independent release, 1996's 'Size Nine'. After a shift in members in 1997, they recorded 'Superclass' the following summer, and chaos ensued with a strew of shows at Halifax's the Pavilion, the Marquee, the Attic, ATV/ASN's Breakfast Television, a few in-store performances at HMV in downtown Halifax, as well as many shows all over Nova Scotia, including a show in the dead cold of winter outdoors at Ski Martock. What troopers these boys are. 'Superclass' made a noticeable dent in (Dalhousie University radio station) CKDU's weekly chart for many weeks. Since launching their successful website, http://beam.to/shoebox , Shoebox has attracted fans from other provinces, some setting up fan sites and chat groups. The site provides those who are interested to download free music, pictures, and get information on upcoming shows, which are all updated regularly. Shoebox is widely known as a band that never lets their audience down. They won't leave the stage until they're sure that everyone in the room has had a good time. The band and the crowd are not separate entities at a Shoebox show. Often members of the audience will be brought onstage to perform with the band. So please, if you don't want to have any fun whatsoever, steer clear of these guys.
