Artist History
St.-Petersburg band PARA BELLUM exists since October, 1995, as a band, and since 1992 as the project of guitarist Alexey Pisarev and of vocalist Leonid Novikov. In October of 95-th the bass - guitarist and the drummer are invited to cooperate with Leonid and Alexey. From this moment, PARA BELLUM began to exist as working collective. The first gig was held in November of 1997 in St.Petersburg club "Sawmill", within the framework of small club festival. From the beginning of 1998 - series of concerts in the St.-Petersburg clubs, as a warming-up band at first. From the beginning of 1999, together with creative growth of group - the headliners. One of achievements of group in the first crew is the joint project with St.Petersburg artists Galina Samarina and Nikolay Skryl - "Audiovisualization of Fundamental Parameters of Consciousness" is born in the fall of the same year. Representation of this project was held in club "Milk" 24.11.99. In January, 2000, after the recording of two compositions at St.Petersburg studio "Dobrolyot" (the sound producer - Alexander Martisov), PARA BELLUM have taken part in the festival of the FUZZ magazine - "Fuzzfest". April, 14, 2000 the group acted on a club stage of the "SKIF-4" festival ("Sergey Kuriokhin International Festival"), taking place April, 14-16 in St.-Petersburg "Baltic House" theatre. In May, PARA BELLUM's track "Five Minutes of Love" entered the FUZZ musical magazine's "FuzzBox Vol.10" compilation. In March issue of this magazine the big article about the band was published for the first time. In July the band was left by guitarist, Alexey Pisarev. At the end of September Leonid dismisses the first crew and, after very short time interval, a professional guitarist Alexey "Alex" Shpynev (ex-Orden,also working on his own project NAMBA WON) whom PARA BELLUM have invited to produce their debut album, had been asked to participate. Leonid and Alexey invited NAMBA WON's drummer Michael Harchenko and bass - guitarist Dmitry Turijev. The new crew of PARA BELLUM within two weeks rearranges the material selected for recording and enters the studio. PARA BELLUM's maiden disk was recorded with the alternating cast for almost one month. From this moment, the style of the band has got it's outline - goth rock/goth metal. With the change of band members, the sound of the band itself has also changed. It became more sated and dense, and the songs of different years, that have been sounding separately earlier, gained their musical unity being recorded. In the middle of November, PARA BELLUM’s first album was issued at last. Then keyboardist and pianist Elena Sorokina started works with the band. In the winter 2001, after a series of gigs the band stops activity, and is dismissed in the spring. In the beginning of summer Leonid has declared the band dismissal and a beginning of the work on the new project.
However, in August, with bassist Alexey Ershov taken part, Leonid Novikov and Alexey Pisarev's creative alliance has renewed, and, as a result, the decision to recreate the band using the received experience and new ideas was made. Now there is a work on the new concert program. Now band sounds like post-punk-gothic group without metal influences of old (first album) program.
