Artist History
In 1992 I had the idea to use the congas not only as a rhythmical but also as a melodic instrument. Therefore it was necessary to have several congas, tunes inscale, in order to be able to play melodies. I contacted my greatfriend , the luthier Juan José Colombo, presented him my ideaand he liked it.From that moment, we started working for six months, untilwe developed an instrument, which consists of:7 congas (which measures are 40,35,33,30,28,26,26 cm)2 sets of deep bongos (of 24 and 26 cm)and 2 sets of bongos (of 16 and 18 cm)So the instrument was formed by 15 drums, tuned in hexatonic scales, and painted in yellow, representing the sun energy. I named this instrument The "Orquesta Amarilla".Once this instrument was finished, I started to study and investigate its technique. In 1993 I did my first public perfomance as a soloist in theMar del Jazz Festival, in the San Martin Theater. But I was not satisfied of performing as a soloist, so I formeda group of percussion, which was, at the beginning a trio, thena quintet. I named it The "Orquesta Amarilla" Percussion Ensemble. The group passed trough a process of changes of its members until its present formation. We compose all the plays we execute, using contemporary composing techniques, odd metrics and Latin, African andHindu influences. The "Orquesta Amarilla has given lots of concerts and workshops in Buenos Aires and all along the country.
