Artist History
I've been playing guitar on and off for 10 years, and my musical tastes have changed much in this time. Used to listen to classic rock and heavy metal, then I got into psychedelic stuff like Pink Floyd. Next I really got into instrumental jamming like the Mahavishnu Orchestra, and then more classic jazz, especially Miles Davis. At this point my interests shifted to music from other countries, including India, my favorite artists being Ravi Shankar, L. Subramaniam, Hariprasad Chaurasia, Zakir Hussain, and many more. At the end of college I was stunned to hear the amazing talent and music of bluegrass/newgrass. Tony Rice, Norman Blake, David Grisman, Bela Fleck and others kill me every time I hear them. My latest thing is the blues, Buddy Guy, BB King, Jimi Hendrix, and many others. I'm sure my interests will continue to widen as the years pass. I wouldn't say I really play in any particular style, partially 'cause I can't do what the pros do, and partially because what I play is almost exclusively what I make up, which a fusion of all I have ever heard and dug. |
