Artist description
EllaQuence seeks to create songs that stand out and can be heard over and over again. "If the mood of a song dictates it, we use a soft male voice and if an other song requires it, we opt for a female. It's important for us to focus on a song-by-song basis", says Jesper, and Flemming adds: "We have tried to create music on a rigid role-basis, but it didn't really hit the spot of what the songs were ment to be". When asked why they extensively use computers and synths, the reason is similar: "Acoustical music has it's merits, and I love that as well, but when we work, we want to go beyond that and reach some place where sound is sound and it communicates what we want to communicate", says Flemming. The two found their writing style in a natural way. "We just tried to go where we each had our passion", says Flemming, "I like the magic of a great chord and when the harmonies really kick, whereas Jesper buries himself in the samples, beats and treatments". So what is the style of EllaQuence really? "You know, It's not so important for us and we don't really know. But we certainly feel that it's pop. We want it to be pleasant and easy to get into. But on the other hand we're sure that it has qualities and content way beyond that and that's where we want to go." |

Artist History
Germinating in 1992, EllaQuence started up as a solo project of Flemming who had a desire to create music that could engulf the listener in cozy vocals and soundscapes, with a strong jazzy feeling. During this first period, EllaQuence created the first collection of songs, "Sofasound". Jesper, for a while supporting Flemming's project somewhat in different ways -- also on Sofasound -- was invited to join the party fulltime and soon the two, with the aid of Heidi -- the voice of passion -- completed a collection of songs they called "Sofasound Part II". From the very outset, the partners quickly found that they could supplement each other creatively, with Flemming as the guy who -- according to Jesper -- "just, out of the blue, sits down and plays a great riff at the piano" and Jesper as the guy who glues the musical pieces together inside the intimidating world of electronics. At a point in time the collaboration with Heidi stops as she takes on the real world outside the music, and Flemming and Jesper -- forever grieving the loss of her golden voice -- coninue their quest. |
