Press Reviews
Cal Hollow, "Two Bulb Twilight" (Jericho / Sire): "If breathtaking harmonies ring your chimes, find this debut CD...pure pop, infused with folk, country and even a little jazz...but the singing is what puts it all over the top. Dow, on "No Mercy," is charming with his soothing baritone. Sexy stuff - listen with someone you love." - Jane Ganahl, San Francisco Examiner"Falling somewhere between glossier alt-country bands and mainstream trad-rock in the vein of Matchbox 20 and Hootie & the Blowfish, Cal Hollow turned out a solid, workmanlike debut with Two Bulb Twilight...They have a knack for well-scrubbed, anthemic roots-rock, and thanks to John Porter's clean production, they sound radio-friendly throughout the record...those songs that do deliver -- including the single "No Mercy" and "Lindentown" -- illustrate that Cal Hollow cannily walk the thin line between substance and commercial appeal, and they do so quite fetchingly." - Ultimate Band Listing: Stephen Thomas Erlewine"Coming together in San Francisco - a burg known for garrulous beats and psychedelic folk - in the space of a year this band delivers an extraordinary record of memorable hooks, soaring melodies, and smart songwriting." - DiscExchange |
