Artist description
The West End Instrumental Ensemble projects an intensely spiritual aura while performing unusually inspired renditions of traditional "Negro Spirituals" and Hymns. In the tradition of such auspicious music as Duke Ellington's "Sacred Concerts", and John Coltrane's "A Love Supreme". along with Louis Armstrong's renowned rendition of "When The Saint Go Marching In" The West End Instrumental Ensemble debut release "One In The Spirit" upholds this tradition. |

Press Reviews
Imani MagazineJan.1999 Alonia Parks Jernigan If you love jazz and Gospel music, then you'll love the West End Instrumental Ensemble's project, One In The Spirit. The project is purely jazz, but contains nothing but Gospel songs. To listen to the project is like listening to your favorite jazz songs, but you can still feel that the songs are ministering to the soul because the songs are mostly familiar tunes. Featuring perfectly played instrumentalization of flute, saxophone, percussion and other jazz instruments, favorites from the project include Precious Lord, Motherless Child, Kumbiya and Amazing Grace. Other familure tunes from the projects are Ezekiels'Wheel, What a Fellowship and Wade in the Water. Because the project is so rich in it's instrumentalization, one cannot help but feel a sense of "Black History" as it is played. Ideally, the project would make for a terrific Black History gift.
