Artist History
Oscar and Ricky met 15 years ago in high school, where they learned, studied and played together in SharpEdge, a group which saw Oscar and Ricky begin to develop their songwriting capabilities. SharpEdge was an 80’s influenced rock band, interpreting the “big hair” song styles of that time period. After playing for approximately two years together, Oscar and Ricky parted ways and played separately in many bands, both in the United States and in Mexico. After a separation of approximately 5 years, they met up again and began "Cima", a musical project inspired by years of dedication to music, a vast array of experience and a love of playing and songwriting. This “reunion” gave birth to Cima’s first CD entitled “Vuelo” which contains eleven compositions of acoustic guitar-dominated Rock in Spanish. In order to maintain the direction and style of the music, written by Oscar and Ricky, “Vuelo” was recorded solely by both composers, who played all of the instruments on the CD. Waldo Estrada, a local keyboardist and friend, supported Cima with his talents throughout the recording. The music on “Vuelo” was well received by radio listeners and catapulted Cima onto a higher level, both locally and across Mexico. After a year of strictly radio promotion, Oscar and Ricky felt it was time to record a new CD, with a list of 25 songs ready to be picked for the next production. In April of 2000, Cima went back into the studio to record “La Elegancia de la Imaginación” which contains fourteen new original songs from the songwriting dual. The acoustic rock-oriented music on "La Elegancia de la Imaginación" was once again written, performed and recorded by Oscar and Ricky, Oscar playing lead, rhythm and acoustic guitars, and Ricky playing lead, acoustic and rhythm guitars, keyboards, bass and lead and background vocals. Mark Enciso, a close friend of Oscar and Ricky and a drummer with 20 plus years of experience, performed on four tracks on the CD. Due to a lack of time and resources, “Vuelo” was recorded using an electronic drum machine, giving the music a softer, more monotonous edge. The music on “La Elegancia de la Imaginación” was recorded using live studio drummers, giving the music more grit and feeling, an essence Cima worked hard to capture on the new CD. “Elegancia”, which took 4 months to record, was finally released in May of 2001 after overcoming a barrage of challenges and barriers. |
