Artist History
CHI was founded in 1984 by Hanyo van Oosterom (aka The Flying Dutchman). The final recordings have been recorded live on a 4-track taperecorder in a farm in Moordrecht, the Netherlands and was performed live in 1985-1986. “Kuhl II” was recorded live at the Paradiso in Amsterdam. CHI was one of the first European groups that performed ambient music live on stage in combination with experimental video and photography (slides). CHI performed on major festivals for experimental music. Their first audio cassette "The Original Recordings" has turned out to be a collectors item for fans of ambient music. The music was later released on CD in 1996 by the legendary independent label "Staalplaat" on their "Container" label. |

Press Reviews
Platenblad (Netherlands)“Classic and timeless ambient it the for the keeps category. Fourth World Music from The Netherlands. Almighty! I would never have believed it possible”.Gonzo (Belgium)“Although the recordings date from 1985, they are still very original. The atmosphere of CHI forms a bridge between the sound experiments of Fripp and Eno and the more percussion based ambient of O Yuki Conjugate. The sublime closing track is a live recording made in Paradiso during the same period. I can hardly believe this has been lying on some shelf somewhere for ten years”.DJ/Immerge (UK):“Oosterom’s slow motion cinerma might offer an ironic stillness and relief masking the fitfull background hum with its warm hypnotic shadowplay; neatly outlining a man ahead of his time”.Gonzo (Belgium)“Although the recordings date from 1985, they are still very original.
