Artist History
Heaven knows how the man got into making music, but it probably all started in the summer of 1994 with a CU Amiga magazine coverdisk containing Octamed v4 and some Red Dwarf and TR-909 samples. After the purchase of a birthday harddrive, the Amiga became Andy's sole musical outlet for the next six years (!). Well, it gave him plenty of time to develop his sound, I guess...'Big Speakers Tiny' first appeared as a compilation of new Octamed 'choons' which turned up in my Bangor University mailbox around October 1997. The cassette contained some truly wacky yet highly catchy and melodic music which resulted in nothing short of a 359-degree grin. The second track, 'Arab Kite Training', is still one of the damn funkiest basslines I've ever heard (all the better for being played on some nondescript 8-bit throb rather than a bass guitar).Four more cassette compilations sprang up over the following two years, all exhibiting a steady musical evolution and maturity despite the insanely low sample rates. Now Big Speakers is finally making music on a proper, decent piece of kit - and sounding astoundingly interesting after his years of musical fermentation. Aah yes. Look out PRichard D.Jams! And about f@cking time, too.(account by gingko C. you can hear selected highlights of 2.5 years of Big Speakers Tiny at http://jump.to/bst ). |
