Artist History
Pink Ghetto is a collaboration between two Vancouver artists, Barbara Oliver and Raj Krishna. Barbara Oliver spent several years as a lead singer in the local cover scene, honing her skills as a writer and performer. During this time she formed an original band called "Barbie Gall". The band enjoyed success with their single "Drag" on local college radio, which also premiered in the independent film "The Perfect Man". After the band dissolved, Barbara Oliver went on to write and perform a one woman show entitled "Diary of a Mad Diva", a solo female musical performance extravaganza which included comedy, singing, impersonations and reflections of the many struggles and experiences of women artists throughout history. Receiving rave reviews at Vancouver's Fringe Festival, Barbara accepted the offer to perform Diary of a Mad Diva as a headlining feature in "Women 2000", a solo female performer series which is one of only 5 in the world.Pink Ghetto, which reveals Barbara Oliver's talents as a singer-songwriter in her own right, has a style that is primarily influenced by electonic sounds, with influences ranging from Roxy Music to Courtney Love. "Our Heads" is Pink Ghetto's second release to date. Enjoy this poetic mix of electonica and snarly guitar. Pop house with an edge! |
