    Artist History
Robert Conti began to play the guitar at the age of twelve. Although he studied briefly with a local teacher, Conti is virtually self-taught. He was a childhood friend of Pat Martino and they often played and practiced together. Conti's early jazz influences were Johnny Smith, Wes Montgomery and Joe Pass.Conti's first professional work was with various commercial bands. From 1961-67 he had little involvement in jazz, spending most of his career traveling with show bands. He decided to settle in the Jacksonville, Florida area and made his living teaching guitar. From 1971-76 he gave up music and the guitar, and devoted himself to a career in securities. Since 1976 Conti has once again made his career in music, both teaching and playing guitar in diverse jazz groups, first in Florida and now in Southern California.
