Artist History
Aymuray means "Tiempo de Cosecha" in Quecha the native dialect, and "Harvest Time" in English. Aymuray takes their name after one of the most celebrated months being May, Aimuari, or "Song of the Harvest." Lead by brothers Carlos and Jose Crespo from Bolivia.Aymuray brings the authentic sounds of South America to North America. A 4-5 piece group in traditional South American dress and performing on the instruments indeginous to their native country. Carlos René Crespo Born en Huanuni (a miners town in the highlands of Bolivia), comes from a family where music was part of their everyday life, His father as well as his grand-lather were well known musicians. CarIos, who is the director of Aymuray and the leading voice of the group. started his musical career in Bolivia a member of the internationally known groups like proyeccion, Kjarkas, Winay. and Kollana. As musician CarIos traveled extensively en South America. and Mexico. Instruments
SIKU or ZAMPONA (pan-pipes) is simply some pipes or hollow tubes closed at one end. There are many sizes in the family or Siku or Zampona from smallest to the largest being: the IKAS (approximately 7” to its largest tube tuned to Em); MALTAS, the most popular size pan-pipe, commonly called Zamponas (approximately 13½” for the largest tube in key of Em); SAN KAS (22½” Em); Toyos (54” largest tube in key of Em). Generally the Zampona is made of Andean bamboo called Cañahuaca, but it can be fabricated with any material which will form tubes and can be closed at one end. |
