    Artist History
"Staple combines brutal sounds with honesty and introspection." says John (Fat Johnny) Daqila - DJ at 99.7 the Blitz in Columbus, OH. "Their live show is formidable." Daqila has seen the band develop from its early days. Darin Keim (vocals), Brian Miller (guitar) and Grant Beachy (drums) - three original members still with the band - met at college in the spring of 1999. They reconvened in the winter of 1999, and that following spring, Staple was born. Some three years and 4 bassists later, (including Israel Beachy, the permanent addition) Staple has secured a solid reputation in its region. Their aggressive, metal-oriented rock carries honest lyrics and intense passion; a passion that is infectious on stage. "Staple's audience always feels a part of the show," says Steve Vaughn, a concert promoter for Gathering Grounds in Dayton, OH. "The band is magnetic. They have a knack for connecting with the crowd and drawing it in." This energy is carried offstage as well and is a reflection of their personal lives. "We have never been disappointed by these guys," says Vaughn. "Their attitude is as great as their ability. All around, they are a pleasure to work with." The music that Staple produces is focused, but diverse. "We work hard at taking different musical ideas and making them distinctly Staple." says Grant Beachy (drums). Members of the band list not only heavy music as influences, but also bands from other genres. Bands ranging from U2, Social Distortion, Led Zepplin, to classical music, all have their place in the cd players of the band. Creating walls of intense music that in an instant can drop into one of their many enchanting atmospheres displays their diversity inspired by their varied influences. Staple has a way of creating an atmosphere in which the music enhances the particular emotion that has been set up by the lyrics. Whether it is behind the raw energy of “Pop”, or the reverent contemplation expressed in "Taken by You", Staple keys in on what they’re feeling in a way that the listener can experience as well. When approached about the lyrical aspect of the band, lead vocalist Darin Keim is clear on what he wants conveyed. "I'm simply trying to present the truth that I've experienced in life as honestly as I can. Sometimes those are extremely hard lessons to learn, but I want people to see that truth, even if it's when I'm at my worst. People identify with truth, whether it comes hard or naturally, and that's what makes them grow." Keim goes on to explain the purpose behind his vocal stylings. "I want people to get a glimpse at my heart, and who I am, but it’s got to be done with excellence in everything I do." He explains, "From the delivery to the melody, I want more than something that just fills space. I want each song to be a personal experience that the listener can step into." This is an agenda that Keim takes very seriously; and it is evident on their recordings. Staple has now signed with Flicker Records, out of Nashville, TN. Their up-coming debut is slated for February of ’04. Currently, they have a six-song EP, and a full-length, self-titled album which combined have both moved over 3,500 units independently. Staple was selected by Columbus' 99.7 The Blitz as one of the top eight bands in central Ohio in both 2001 and 2003. "People in this town know that when they come to a Staple concert, they are going to have an amazing experience," says Nikki Cantu, music director for the RadioU/TVU Network. "They do not leave their crowd disappointed."
