Artist description
Nyquist is a performing trio specializing in freely improvised, experimental electro-acoustic music. Sometimes quiet and introspective, at other times exploding with complex turbulence and high-energy noise, the group immerses its audience in a highly varied, delicated nuanced sound world. An eclectic mixture of instrumental forces, Nyquist features Seth Cluett on fretless electric bass, voice, and occasionally sheets of metal and power tools; Scott Smallwood on amplified Trinidadian steel drum, small percussion, and electronics; and Joel Taylor on Japanese shakuhachi, Indonesian suling, the Serge synthesizer, and electronics. Of principal concern to these musicians is the development of timbre and texture through extended performance techniques involving both acoustic and electronic treatments and manipulations. |
