Artist History kid stuff: annoyingly for anyone in the vicinity, took up violin, oboe & viola...just a noise...moved onwards & upwards to sax & piano...less of a noise...parped & thumped my way thro' the various gatherings of strangled cats known as school bands...discovered keyboards, headphones, & the art of locking myself away to 'compose'...ploughed thro' the mire of unoriginal self-expression & the required mountain of minor chords...later stuff: was dripfed jazz at music college, despite valiant attempts to avoid it...spent way too much time writing out parts (plainly needed to get out more) for my 'jazz-funk' band, (nice), considering we managed the grand total of 2 gigs in as many years...was told by one highly supportive lecturer that i was far too old (at 19) to stand any chance of being successful in the 'pop biz'...if only he could see me now, still plugging away at 57...moved to london & got band together to do my stuff...lived in pub circuit limbo/hell for as long as i/we could stand to watch the pint jug being handed round, ("show yer appreciation", blah), & simply not, by any stretch of the imagination, being filled up...met chick called hutch thro' that & went on to record a ton of songs together...flogged the dead horse that was ol' blighty & moved swiftly on to new york to flog some more...better vibe, more possibilities, some near-misses, but...back in england we were (mis)managed, showcased, wound up, let down...with no signing of the elusive 'deal on the table' in sight, i took time off...been doing the session musician thang for a couple of years...toured usa & europe with groove armada, gigged with different singers/bands, done 2 tv series...now in middle of recording an album, hoping to do some live stuff next year, open to any ideas...if you like my tracks let me know, be great to hear from you...nuff blurb already... *** i'm in new york from march14 til june... check out my calendar for NYC gigs ***
