Artist description
It all started when two friends with a mutual love for electronic music gottogether to form something very different. Frustrated by mindless 'ElectronicDance' that followed text book formulas, Myk and Steve decided to do their ownthing.Amoia and Knight combined all of their gear (which includes analog keyboards, abunch of used toys and state of the-art recording equipment) and began makingcountless tapes. They booked shows at electronic dance clubs as Deep Fried Clams, the least suspecting name possible. Deep Fried Clams would fool their audience bylocking them into dance grooves and then morph into odd combinations of musicalstyles. In their free time, Deep Fried Clams collects toys from garage sales and bringsthem to life in their music. Much in the way you can make a new toy, by using anarm or leg from one to another, Deep Fried Clams fuses elements from differentmusical styles to create. Musically, we're trying to replicate the visual of ourtoys going into motion, explains Amoia.Hiding Behind A Smile, their debut release on Oxygen Music Works, exhibits anadventurous, experimental, and fun side of electronica. For instance, the openingtrack, The Rules 'R' The Rules busts out with a loud, salsa horn loop that isjoined by a party like dance beat and sweeping synths. Soon, however, the tracktransforms itself into a dark, slick techno groove with samples of Knight's formeremployer. Similarly, Weedwacker is a hypnotic blend of eerie samples over ahip-hop backdrop. Deep Fried Clams challenges the perceptions of today's electronic music. |
