Artist description The term “contrived” too easily represents the unfortunate qualities of many of today’s post rock and math rock bands. But the band Contrived possess an energy and passion for their music that proves they are anything but what their name would suggest. It is their heart that separates them from their cold counter-parts. Currently they are making huge strides across Eastern Canada, leaving blown minds and other sorts of debris in their path. It is obvious that bands who have shared the stage with Contrived have become immediate fans. And that doesn’t just include hard-hitting rivals like Kitchens and Bathrooms or North of America. Contrived members have backed international phenomenon Buck 65 while their debut CD, Pursuit of Plots, was recorded by Charles Austin (Neusiland and Superfriendz). At the average age of only twenty Contrived are infiltrating the press, radio waves, and Much’s Going Coastal.

Artist History Contrived have been making a collective HUM for just under two years in Halifax,NS. They have released a full length CD, "Pursuit of Plots", and toured Central Canada in 2002. The second full length ablum will be released nationaly by Outside Music Distribution in late 2003. Contrived Tour 2003 is listed in the dates section.

Group Members Loel Campbell plays the drums and sings, Mike Bigelow plays the bass and sings, Mike MacNeil plays the guitar and sings, Tim Deon plays guitar and sings.

Press Reviews From "Exclaim" December 2002 Contrived- Pursuit of Plots Though Canada's East Coast has long been known for sugary, Beatles-influenced indie rock, it seems a new movement of cleverly aggressive hardcore bands is afoot. Like North of America and The Plan, Contrived opts for time-signature trickery and sporadic yells as an alternative to their homeland's obsession. And it seems that the members aren't the only ones getting restless out east. The group has made huge strides in Halifax and surrounding areas. But it would be too easy to chalk Contrived's success up to bored small-towners, but Pursuit of Plots proves that any accolades are well deserved. The rest of the country will catch on, because the East Coast won't be able to keep a secret this good.
