    Artist History
Æthyria has been a work in progress off and on for a rather long time. To name it’s beginning is as difficult as finding the beginning of a circle. At the request of various radio stations , labels and magazines some form of story must be told. Æthyria is the solo project of one Jeff Woodruff. Jeff began playing guitar in the year of 1987 at the age of 12 . Within a very short time he started his first band. Through out the years Jeff has played in many different bands from Thrash Metal to Death Metal to Black Metal as well as various forms of world music . By the mid 90’s Jeff left the metal scene , to pursue the mystical 23. After spending a few years searching for the answer to the universe , finding it several times and then misplacing it repeatedly . He found himself in tears sitting in his room with his guitar, keyboards, native flute , jaw harp, tribal drums, didgeridoo, drum machine and his Korg recorder and recorded a four song demo called The Awakened One. The year was 1999 and the demo was one of a kind, nor could it be classified as a regular genre of metal it could best be described as dark atmospheric screaming. After that Jeff realized that he was both insane and capable of doing music on his own . He then began work on Æthyria. No longer awakened he released Suicide is sacred as a demonstration of his lunacy , with a little extra vocal help by Caleb Maldonado. In 2001, Æthyria returned with Influx the Air a demo that reached a new level of violence . Also, In the same year Jeff teamed up with Mark weeks and Caleb to do a project called The Inverted ( a straight ahead brutal death metal project). At this point Jeff began working on to many projects and started getting pulled in to many directions with people that where not as dedicated toward music as he was. His last side project was The Servants of Twilight which featured Louis Adams on vocals. After being extremely impressed with Louis's vocals Jeff decided to have him do some vocals on the next Æthyria demo. Which brings us to the end of this story. As things evolved it was time for Æthyria to release a album that showed the progressions through out the years as well as the new directions of the future . So Æthyria released Manifestations of 99-02 . Which compiled various demos as well as new material on to one disc . The disc contains one hour of guitar driven insanity that is both heavy and diverse .That should leave the listener excited to hear what is in the next Æthyr.

AETHYRIA is the solo project of one Jeff Woodruff, and a grand one, at that. Jeff has a remarkable creature on his hands. Imagine a moodier old EMPEROR or laid back IMMORTAL, and you have at least a small inkling of what AETHYRIA is about. Do not expect a ton of keyboards, because they will only be found in thankfully sparse amounts. Jeff lets his guitars do the talking, and I thank him for that. Here and there throughout this record, thrash riffs creep in. I'm not sure if this is a personal best-of or if it's a complete collection of AETHYRIA's recorded works from 1999 to 2002, but at any rate it's a worthy collection, and it flows like a full-length album. Even a track from Jeff's project THE AWAKENED ONE is included, which I remember receiving flyers for around 1999 or so, which would be accurate, since that is the oldest material here. This is a CD that I pop in when I want something heavy but brooding, but with a black/death feel. If you want some excellent guitar work and great songs, AETHYRIA is a sure bet. by andrew parish of monster world of metal
