Artist description
"An artist for the new with a little spice from the past,” is basically how Estes Shane Whalen describes himself in today’s evolving music industry. Drawing upon a variety of influences (e.g., Rolling Stones, Elton John, Elvis Costello, Counting Crows, Willie Nelson), Estes has modernized the singer-songwriter approach giving way to a bigger, bolder sound that helps to blend thoughtful lyrics with identifiable melodies. “I’ve always believed that any good song should be able to sustain its strength when broken down to basics. However, I also like to get a little crazy when I perform, so the all acoustic album will have to wait for VH-1 Storytellers.” His chances to get crazy will be realized as he preps for his soon to be released debut album If Timing is Everything. The album was recorded this summer in Los Angeles, CA with Producer/Mixer/Engineer Michael James (Hole, New Radicals, A J Croce) and Producer/Keyboardist David Zeman (Rembrandts, A.J. Croce), and mastered by David Donnelly (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Beck, Aerosmith). |

Press Reviews
"We're seeing more independent artists implement sales and distribution plans through the Internet, promoting high-quality album projects primarily online. Singer, songwriter, and producer Estes Shane Whalen has finished his debut album "If Timing Is Everything," and is building a fan base and sales record through virtual marketing and distribution methods. Whalen's site is generous with both streaming and downloadable selections, offering full-version files, encoded at 160k (high fidelity), of every track on the album. Lyrics are also available at the site, and visitors can pre-order the CD. Eventually, online stores will carry the album, but you may not be able to find it in brick-and-mortar outlets. Whalen represents a breed of wired indie artist who is taking the potential of online music in hand and building a successful product with bits and bytes. Oh, and the music is good, too--straight-ahead, gutsy, accessible pop with an edge and fine production values." Brad Hill, TIPWORLD |
