...my friend Mr.X and I came up with the zany idea of recording a Christmas album to give out to friends and family. Mr. X, at the time, owned an $8000 digital drumset, a recording studio and every known recording console known to man. The only musical instrument I owned at the time was a Fostex four track tape recorder. In fact, my brother, Scott and I were in a band and I had to play his nearly antiquated Fender Rhodes electric piano in order to practice with him. The bottom line is, at that time there was no extra money for musical instruments much less for frivolous presents. Talk was big, but eventually Mr.X bowed out of the project. I decided to go through with it anyway by relying on good friends to lend me their musical toys and even better friends' to sing with and for me. ...and that's the way it worked in the year following that... ... And again, the year following that... In 1998, I mixed these down to a digital format and during that process something occurred to me. This collection of songs is clearly more to me than a bunch of oddly rendered Christmas songs; this is a celebration of friends. It is a visit back to a very special time in my life. It is an exercise in creativity and well, mostly fun to listen to again. Amazingly, much of my immediate family, my closest friends, my future wife, and even my pet bird, "Todd” (not to be confused with my current dog named Todd) are all present on this album. It was recorded at my first apartment, at my church, at friends' homes, in offices, at work and nearly everywhere I had lived in San Mateo County. Some tracks were even recorded at my employer's home. Not one track was recorded without the recipients in mind. To me, these recordings are a lot more than holiday music. And yes, while I said there would be no more "Dan Fowler" gifts, I believe this really doesn't count since I, more or less, have already given this out before, sans the liner notes and the better sounding format. I hope when you listen to these songs you hear more than quirky renditions of familiar music. I would like you to remember your first holiday season away from home; to when your friends were your family, when your family became your friends and the price of the gift simply wasn't all that important.Dan Fowler |

Artist History
The FROZEN DOG Christmas albums were extremely popular items. the series started as an idea between drummer Mr.X and us as a means to create a clever bulk Christmas present. Mr.X later opted to simply assist his percussion abilities on a few tracks and hand over the whole project to FROZEN DOG productions. Although each tape is clocked under 15 minutes in length, there was no compromise in quality, ingenuity or quantity of the songs packed into each tape. truly, one of audio's great guilty pleasures...! |

"Christmas at the Beach". A robust finale to the series. Recorded at Dehmlow's Megabuck Studios. It delightfully sings humour and cleverness back to your stereo. Ends with a 42 person accepella choir. - A triumph! |
