Artist description
True Texans know that the thin, muddy river separating Texas and Mexico might as well be a thousand-foot chasm. You can throw a stone from one side of the Rio Grande to the other, but the cultures on either side are worlds apart. That is, until a common awareness created by the music of St. Jubilee brings together the migrant worker, the cowboy, the immigrant, the weathered bluesman, the mother and child, and the indigenous peoples of an ancient land. St. Jubilee is a Houston, Texas based band formed in 1999. With Bryan Contreras (vocals), Manny Flores (drums), Jason Youngblood (bass guitar) and Marc Turner (lead guitar), St. Jubilee is a melting pot of the best of Texas/Pop/Rock music. The bands debut CD (Vagabond Mestizos), was tracked at Pedernales Studio in Austin, Tx, with L.A. based producer Greg Hampton (Derringer, Bogert, Appice; Ron Wood, Scot Holt) The CD was mixed by Steve Werbelow at Asylum Sound Studio in Canoga Park, California. Greg combined St. Jubilee’s fresh songwriting with veteran rock musicians Bill Payne (keyboards, Little Feat) and Carmine Appice (percussion, Rod Stewart, Ted Nugent, Ozzie) to produce something new and exciting. The CD contains 12 original songs. The music has a pop sound that tells a story of the old south with danceable Latin rythmns and searing Texas guitar. The rich cultural history of Texas and the struggles of it’s people are illustrated through St. Jubilee’s music. |
