Artist History
In 1999, Red Carpet Orange was formed by Eastern Michigan University School of Music graduate Don Kline. Although classically trained, Kline’s songwriting displays more modern influences, mixing elements of house, funk, drum & bass, hip-hop, and jazz. After a brief stint in early 1995 as the singer for local jazz group the Jazz Cabinet, Kline began experimenting more with electronic music and began recording and performing as esion. A one-man electro-rock outfit based in Ann Arbor, MI, esion has since built a loyal following by playing some of the Detroit area's most trafficked venues, including St. Andrew's Hall, the Shelter, Harpo's, and the Blind Pig. After self-releasing and distributing three albums as esion, Kline added three more members to the lineup to reinforce the band’s new sound. As esion began to draw more inspiration from rock music, Kline searched for an outlet for his more electronic compositions. This led him to form Red Carpet Orange and record the CD “twentyfourseven,” which he released on October 31st, 2000 on his own Mastadon Records imprint. Kline’s goal with Red Carpet Orange is to compose easily accessible songs with solid song structures designed at conveying a wide range of moods. Contact:redcarpetorange@hotmail.com(734) 635-3712P.O.
