Press Reviews
The Union Bar - 17th February 2001
I found out about Orphan from the good people of The Silver Projection who supported this three piece at the end of last year. They reckoned the band were well worth checking out, so that I did.
As the band got underway it was quite clear they were a highly energetic rock act jumping around and beating their guitars like there was no tomorrow. The vocals of Dan bellowed out in a melodic manner but erupting in to a rough scream as each track reached its height. All this was done with great enthusiasm, this band love being tunefully high rate and they love being loud all the way to the end.
The most impressive part of the band was the bassist though, Jut made some really funky and out right brilliant riffs most people wouldn't bother trying to do on a bass let alone actually pull it off. I was totally impressed.
Character was added to the set by a large inflatable pig that was also sharing the stage with the band. Poor old Perky thought he was going to be safe from Foot and Mouth up there but he couldn't have been more wrong.
Vocalist Dan kicked poor little Perky in to the crowd who systematically kicked him about and then ripped him apart with their teeth. Not the kind of Foot and Mouth poor old Perky was expecting.
The gig ended on a high just high rate as it had started and at one point the excitement got far too much for some guy who decided to have a scrap at the front of the stage.
I think he was the guy getting arrested outside when we where leaving. Shame.
