Artist History Born in Wheeling, West Virginia, Alfred Hoose studied at West Liberty College in his home state, and at the Eastman School of Music, beforeearning degrees from the Hartt College of Music and the New England Conservatory of Music. Among his teachers are Francis Judd Cooke, HugoNorden, Robert Ceely, and Fred Lerdahl. Hoose lives in Waltham, Massachusetts; besides composing, he has (since 1953) been an organist and choral director, and is currently a professor on the faculty of the Bunker Hill Community College in Boston.

Press Reviews Writing about Hoose's "Gestures and Intimations" in Fanfare magazine,Richard Burke described its "frequent flashes of tonal melodic and chordalfragments often fleetingly suggesting American music of the 30s and40s. The work is well written, very effective, and definitely worthhearing."
