Artist History soulvasq - started out as a post alternative rock group named "Wiseguy". Once the band lost its drummer (among other vital members), Dave Solar and Mark Vasquez decided to continue on as an acoustic duo, playing open mic nights in Chicago's various coffee houses and other music-friendly atmospheres. Then soulvasq took a hiatus to pair up with a heavy rock act known as Drop Swarm. The punk rock inspired drummer, Phil Goodrich, became interested in what soulvasq wanted to achieve... a music performance group that had no set agendas or inhibitions. At the same time a classically trained keyboardist who had played with Mark sometime before, Jay Garcia, approached soulvasq about their keyboarding needs. 2 weeks later, soulvasq was re-born! And rebirth is what this group thrives on. Reinventing itself over and over crossing new boundries every time. At this count, soulvasq has parted ways with two horn players, three drummers, four keyboardists and seven guitarists. Dave and Mark of course, not withstanding.

Albums the band has released five ep’s on their own label, hOle in the plOt prOduCtiOns. soulvasq has clocked over 2000 downloads of their music at www.mp3.com/soulvasq, the latter 1000 was received just this last year.

Press Reviews tom lounges of the midwest beat magazine called soulvasq a “hard-edge zappa-esque band” and listen.com says “wacky lyrics, borderline falsettos, multiple changes and thick bass work abounds” in soulvasq’s music, calling the band “prog-metal for the alternative kids” judges at the oasis 160 “battle 2k2” declared “the whole band worked together both musically and visually”, and recognized that “the music is almost secondary to this wild stage show”. soulvasq was awarded first prize in the competition.
