    Artist description
SOLAR TRIBE uniquely combines sounds from around the world – the Far East, Celtic cultures, the Middle-East – within the modern pop/rock paradigm. Melodic songs flavored by hypnotic guitars, drum loops and vocal chants create a sound that is simultaneously ancient and modern. "Tribal Hypno Pop"

    Press Reviews
I know the world was yearning for an upbeat cross between Pink Floyd, Dead Can Dance, Mickey Hart’s Planet Drum, and assorted Peter Gabriel sidemen, and here it is at last. This large Chicago band’s self-released EP, Enlightened Paramecium, is surprisingly likable for all its we-are-the-world pretensions. Maybe it’s because they’re not afraid to lift the Bo Diddley beat when it’s needed, with a big hollow drum sound and crunchy guitar. They know they’re a pop band at heart, would that more grand bands be so humble. Monica Kendrick (Chicago - Reader, March 13, 1999 Although Solar Tribe’s music might best be described as progressive rock, there’s nothing pompous or retro about it. This 12-piece ensemble invigorates the transcendental message of its lyrics with powerful percussion and international instruments such as Chinese harp, dijeridoo, and sitar. The band’s four singers are also outstanding, frequently calling to mind the passionate vocals of Midnight Oil. Enlightened Paramecium is consistently exotic. The title track, "Om", and "Big Bang" lean toward the metaphysical. But the album also includes a few ballads, such as, "Wherever I Go", a touching tribute to a deceased friend. --Terrence Flamm, Illinois Entertainer, August 1999
