Shiver - The Time is Now
Happy, happy hardcore harmonies with a punk feel and a bit more than power chords to back them up fill this CD. Every so often a ska guitar beat is thrown in, and just the opposite some classical guitar work pops up as well. This is the kind of punk-ish band that shows that perhaps this style of music will eventually evolve from the simple thrashing of guitars to something with solid melodies. The lyrics are printed in the liner notes (thankfully) showing that the band not only has intelligence, but also carries a positive message in the songs, "A Thousand Miles," "Here We Go Again," and "What Are You Waiting For." Other songs also tackle the issues of abusive relationships and drug problems in a constructive way. This is a band with impressive lyrics that contain well-composed, outspoken beliefs. No song on the disk is longer than three and a half minutes, and with only eight songs on the CD, it leaves you wound up from the speed of the music and impatiently wanting more.
