Crazy Cat George is a gospel-tinged, soul-rock group. Their All Saints-styled harmonies and revolving leads are so upbeat and moving that it is hard to sit still during any of their songs. They’re certainly not your typical tunes with lyrics like "You won’t get my ass tonight/My butt’s too good for you," and titles such as "Tender Young Men Beware." These young ladies are the epitome of strong and smart-minded women who are confident without the need to bash.Their songs cover a wide expanse of human experiences and this gig was a perfect example of just how prolific they are. Two hours long, it began with a casual acoustic set and then, after a formal costume change, transformed into an electric show. Although the length of time revealed a sameness to much of their material, the fact that they could fill two hours with originals was impressive.Musicianship: Excellence in the extreme, their vocals not only drove the songs, they touched your soul. Exquisite harmonies, rockin’ leads and folksy ballads, these gals did it all. Backing them Granieri and Bauer supplied hard rhythms while Coltman spiked the music with blue-rock leads. Taken all together, their level of play lifted your spirits and excited your mind. You couldn’t help but smile as you moved with the music.Performance: This group not only sang great, they looked great. Each had a distinct personality that added to the overall effect. Their set was so fast paced you could hardly catch your breath between songs. In fact, this tight ensemble displayed such a high caliber of professionalism, they set themselves apart and made you wonder why they’re not signed yet.Summary: Crazy Cat George is getting even more exposure now. One of their songs was chosen for a Corona radio commercial and it is being played everywhere. CCG deserves all the accolades and rewards they receive, because it’s groups like this that will help the industry and fans alike remember what music should be about.-By Bernard Baur, Music Connection Magazine, July 19, 1999Crazy Cat George: Think white En Vogue meets Lilith Fair. They packed the Coconut Teaszer in West Hollywood. The band consists of 3 lead-female vocalists and a kick-ass, solid as hell-3 piece band (That’s 6 people, for those of you keeping count.) What I enjoyed so much about CCG was the way they shared the center stage. They were hot off the EAT-M showcase in Vegas, and were still buzzing over a Corona commercial they’ve starred in, and the great response they received from the industry-saturated crowd in the city of sin. They have the most amazing vocal harmonies I’ve ever heard in L.A. -By Pinky Gonzalez, RedButton.com, July 15, 1999 CD ReviewCrazy Cat George is a Los Angeles folk-rock outfit that has released their second long player, "Left Of Center". The CD opens with the pleasant, "Give In", immediately letting you know what you are in for. Ear friendly acoustic numbers showcasing the vocal talents of singers Tanya Goolsby, Robin Gray, and Jody Stroeh, whose voices are distinctive, yet blend together like coffee and cream. I'm sure the specter of the Indigo Girls has been raised before in connection with CCG, and I'll concede the comparison here, but this band lacks the political posturing. Some of the songs here are clearly estrogen based, however, the activism is focused on the politics of girls and boys. When the ladies harmonize on the poignant "Now", you almost feel yourself transported to a slumber party, watching Mystic Pizza and downing the rocky road with a couple of your girlfriends, commiserating about your man. The performances here are tight, and brightly produced, allowing the guitars of Rich Estes and Greg Granieri to shine.CCG can turn a phrase too, with all five members contributing such clever couplets as "He's like a woolen suit, the kind you love to scratch" (from "Original"), and "You got a watercolor memory and a crayola soul" (from "Chickie") dotting all the songs on "Left Of Center". The best moments take place toward the end, building with "Original", the wispy, ominous, "Runaway" and "Good Thing", a triumphant affirmation of life in L.A. that could just as easily apply to any city. This band has the sound and the talent to get signed, and they're right there in Southern California, so expect to see Crazy Cat George on a Lilith Fair stage or VH1 near you soon, and either would be better for it. -By Rich Flaminio, JAM Magazine, July, 1998 Reviews & Recommendations“This is a group of songwriters who should have publishers banging down their door. And, though their themes are estrogen-driven, they don’t drive off the male population. Instead, they give you a look into a smart woman’s mind. Unlike the current crop of popular girl groups, Crazy Cat George has material that’s uniquely original in substance and depth. When you add their musical style of syncopated counterpoint harmonies and revolving leads, you have a group that’s destined for success. This is a group that is more than ready. They’re playing and performing at a remarkably high level, which is soulful, fun and smart. And their music is outstanding. Check out Crazy Cat George. You won’t regret it."- Bernard Baur, Music Connection, August 18, 1997 "Crazy Cat George’s enchanting, soulful groove seemed to reach out toanyone who was in listening range. We couldn’t recommend a better group for college performance venues and hope to negotiate their return to our campus some time in the near future."- Mary McManus, Activities Coordinator, University of Wisconsin “We were simply blown away. Neither of us have seen a band that we thought was this good in years; if we had been A&R reps we would have signed them in a heartbeat. The band is fronted by three phenomenal vocalists (Tanya Goolsby, Robin Gray and Jody Stroeh) and when we say phenomenal, we are serious. The ladies have gutsy, powerful voices; no squeaky, breathy nuances here; and their music is equally compelling. Catchy, fun, pop rock tunes, with frequent tongue-in-cheek humor and wicked harmonies are the name of the game, and the band played very well. Their guitarist is Rich Estes and bassist is Greg Granieri; The band is just outstanding, so look out for when they play around again. We will wager you will be as impressed as we were."- Linda & Lisa Moore, Rock City News, August 7, 1997
