Artist History
Blackbird Pond formed when singer/songwriters James Stoker (guitars) and Luisa-Mari Gonzales (vocals) created some catchy-blues inspired-grooves with backwoods inspired writings. They later met Sam Nacman (drums) adding his boom-boom right-foot and sassy high-hat techniques. The three (3) members created a sound that sounded like the past but rejuvenated.
Later the band added Percy Iglesia (bass) and Mark Gecolea (keyboards) to the Blackbird Pond sound.
The team recorded a demo, got some outstanding reviews and contacts. Their songs created a buzz around the Hampton Roads, Virginia area. Z-104, local top-40 radio station played their song on "DES or ALL THAT" program. Listeners called in to vote Blackbird Pond to be "All That!"
Another surprise was when well known DJ, Chris Carter (Y-107, 4th largest Alternative radio station in Los Angeles, Calif.) personally called Blackbird Pond requesting to play their songs.
Due to the buzz created by Y-107, 95X in Syracuse, New York, WZTA 94.9 FM and Y-100 in Miami, Florida as well as local stations The Coast 93.7 and FM 99 played Blackbird Pond songs on their station. In addition, local and national magazines (VOICE, NineVolt and VIBE) followed.
. Blackbird Pond opened for international recording group, KAI (Geffen Records) and reached semi-finalist out of 1,300 bands across America in a band contest sponsored by Mars Music and Palm Pictures.
Blackbird Pond performed at The NorVa and PCC Center two of the premier venues in Hampton Roads, Virginia. |

Press Reviews
"This Is Hot! A Good Change For Our Listeners"
- Mike Client, DJ, Z-104 Virginia Beach, VA.
"This Is New. Powerful! I Like This!"
- Chris Carter, DJ, Y-107 Los Angeles, Calif.
"The guitar riffs change from smooth grooves to commanding power, but always puts the listener in a trance. The singer is full of shivering emotional moods, heartfelt sensitivity and freight train howls. The rhythm section is soulful, always moving and ready to break a song down to a gusty, emotional presence."
